Does Charles Schwab Offer Overnight Trading?
No. Schwab does not currently offer overnight stock trading. The thinkorswim platform shares the same extended-hours window.
Eligible Securities
NYSE and Nasdaq-listed stocks and most ETFs. OTC securities, warrants, and certain other instruments are excluded.
Supported Order Types During Extended Hours
Limit orders only during extended hours. Schwab explicitly requires limit orders and may reject market orders placed outside regular hours.
Do I Need to Enable Extended Trading?
Yes. On thinkorswim, enable EXT in the order entry. On Schwab.com, select "Extended Hours" when placing the order.
Do Orders Carry Between Sessions?
Day orders expire at the session close. GTC orders remain active. Schwab's extended-hours session runs until 8:00 PM ET.
Main Risks
Extended-hours trading carries higher volatility, lower liquidity, and wider bid-ask spreads regardless of broker. Prices in premarket or after-hours may differ significantly from regular-session prices. Always use limit orders to control your execution price.
