Does Interactive Brokers Offer Overnight Trading?
Yes. IBKR offers overnight trading from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM ET on over 10,000 US stocks and ETFs through its IBKR ATS and partnered venues.
Eligible Securities
Over 10,000 US-listed stocks and ETFs for extended hours. Overnight trading includes most of the same symbols, but some thinly-traded securities are excluded.
Supported Order Types During Extended Hours
Limit orders for extended hours. IBKR supports a wider range of order types than most brokers, but market orders are still restricted outside regular hours.
Do I Need to Enable Extended Trading?
Yes. You must enable extended-hours trading permissions in TWS or Client Portal. IBKR also requires acknowledgment of the risks specific to after-hours and overnight trading.
Do Orders Carry Between Sessions?
GTC orders carry across sessions. Day orders expire at session end. IBKR distinguishes between regular, extended-hours, and overnight sessions — configure time-in-force accordingly.
Main Risks
Extended-hours trading carries higher volatility, lower liquidity, and wider bid-ask spreads regardless of broker. Prices in premarket or after-hours may differ significantly from regular-session prices. Always use limit orders to control your execution price.
